Organized coaches are successful coaches.
All coaches could be more organized.
And the foundation of every successful coaching system, from sprints to distance, is the specificity and compatibility of their Training Menu / Inventory.
With the spring season being cancelled, the #1 thing you can do to guarantee you come out of the pandemic a better coach would be spending time creating, updating or upgrading your training menu.
So where do you begin?
Well, earlier this month I hosted a webinar taught by Colby College Head T&F Coach Dave Cusano titled ‘Advanced Coaching Systems’.
Considerable time was spent on this topic because we knew it would be popular when we started breaking it down.
Here are a few examples of what coaches had to say after the event ended regarding how this (and similar) topics were covered:
“My favorite part was when Coach Cusano brought out his Master Sheet. Since this is my first year as a head coach, I have consistently been looking for a way to organize my thoughts better and empower my assistant coaches so they have a similar mindset and really focus on a path to getting better (progressions, avoiding staleness, allowing for rest, etc…).
The second best part was when you chimed in, asked questions, and at one point introduced your own sheet. I am always searching the internet and reading books to better my platform and that was something that I have not been able to find anywhere.” – Oscar Molina

“I was really impressed with Coach Cusano.
I’ve been coaching football long before track and field and it was interesting to hear a track coach talk from a similar perspective. I was so impressed by his organization and commitment to excellence in the smallest of details.
His analytics chart and “play sheet” if you will of warmups, exercises, etc. really made me think about consolidating all my knowledge into an easy working document for the athletes. I would 100% recommend this for any coach.” – John Manning

“I love the organization of the workouts; the templates and how to use them. For me personally, organizing workouts and creating a program where I don’t have enough coaches to oversee some areas is hard. But with that Master Sheet, I loved details into that. Or practice organization for us smaller schools (enrollment of about 750 here in Oregon, but we had about 75-80 kids out.) It’s hard because there are so many specific events that need special attention versus general workouts/events (Distance/Sprints, etc.)”. –Dennis Olstedt

“What I like about the present course was how well you two worked together, you were both engaging yet informative and gave rationale for your approaches. I have to say that the course really enlightened me to the value of doing all the upfront work to make sure the season and day to day face time with the team reaps the maximal benefit.” –Janice Prudhomme

If you want to get a taste of what they saw and heard, watch the video at the top of the page.
When you start to think about your own training menu, you’ll probably start to realize there are a whole host of areas where you have holes in your coaching systems.
And this is just one small piece of the 4 ½ hours of coaching organization and administration we covered.
If you weren’t one of the 100 coaches who got into that event, we’re running it again, live, Thursday 4/23 and Friday 4/24 at 1pm Eastern.
If you can’t make those times but still want to register, I’ll be recording the program and sending you the videos.
